Petronas Twin Towers
Malaysia's pride, the Petronas Twin Towers are the world's tallest buildings. Standing at 451.9 metres, they were designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli, and sit amidst a 50-hectare landscaped park. The sky bridge joining the two towers at the 41st floor is open to the public between 10 am to 12.45 pm and 3 pm to 4.45 pm daily, except on Mondays.
Menara Kl
This structure, the tallest tower in southeast Asia and currently the fourth tallest in the world at 421 metres stands at the pinnacle of Bukit Nanas. Situated at the top of it is a restaurant and an observation platform that gives a bird's eye view of Kuala Lumpur.
Merdeka Square
On the turf at Merdeka Square, a marble plaque marks the spot where the Union Jack was lowered at midnight on August 30, 1957, and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time, marking the birth of a nation. The flagpole is the tallest in the world and live entertainment and cultural shows are staged at the amphitheatre on festive occasions.
National Monument
Designed by American artist, Felix Weldon and cast in Italy, it commemorates servicemen who lost their lives during the struggle against the Communist insurgency in the 1950s.
The National Art Gallery, Library, Museum, Planetarium And Science Centre
The newly-opened National Art Gallery located on Jalan Temerloh houses an extensive collection of contemporary works-of-art. More than 1.5 million books, some of them extremely rare are housed in the seven-storey National Library on Jalan Tun Razak. Featuring classical Malay architecture, the museum houses collections on history, local culture and customs, natural history. National Planetarium located close to the National Mosque, includes space science and astronomy i exhibits, a theatre screening three-dimensional movies, viewing gallery and observatory. The striking green-domed building of the National Science Centre is an I architectural marvel that has nine interesting each housing exhibits on different scientific themes.
Lake Gardens
Developed in the 1880s, these gardens cover 70-hectares of rolling lawns, gardens and two lakes. The bird, butterfly and deer parks, as well as orchid and hibiscus gardens are located within its grounds. This is one of the prime natural landmarks of Kuala Lumpur.
Extreme Park @ Sunway
Extreme Park is Malaysia's first and only theme park dedicated to motorised sports. The park covers some 150 acres and features an assortment of thrills and attractions including quad-biking, jet-skiing, dirt karting, golf, go-karting, diving, angling, and much more. Extreme Park is the perfect venue for corporate entertainment and team building events.
Srimaha Mariamman Temple
Built in 1873, the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple on Jalan Tun H S Lee is one of the oldest and most decorated Hindu temples in the country. The intricately adorned portico of deities, decorated with gold and precious stones, depicts stories from early Hindu history. This is the starting point of the annual Thaipusam festival procession.
Sultan Abdul Samad Building
Come nightfall on Saturdays, Merdeka Square is a veritable fairyland, thanks to the Sultan Abdul Samad building nearby on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin. Designed by British architects at the end of the 19th century, themost photographed building in Malaysia was among the earliest buildings in Kuala Lumpur to bear the Moorish influence. Its arresting features are the 40 feet clock tower and the curved colonnades crowned with copper cupolas.
Putrajaya
A spectacular new city is being developed approximately 20 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur. The City of Putrajaya is being called Malaysia's first 'Intelligent garden city' and will be host to many government and business facilities. Billed as Malaysia's administrative capitol, Putrajaya is designed to be one the country's more attractive cities with much of its buildings on its man-made waterfront.
Cyberjaya
Located 40 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya is one Malaysia's most ambitiously conceived communities. Functioning as the nerve centre for Malaysia's high-technology development, it provides an environment unique to most other planned communities with as much emphasis on minimising environmental impact and aesthetic beauty as it places on its advanced technology.
